The Opportunity
They are seeking a Senior Real Estate Attorney to join their real estate team in Houston. This opportunity involves delivering timely, high-quality legal guidance and negotiating commercially and legally sound agreements with landowners' attorneys on real estate matters tied to the company's development, acquisition, and portfolio projects. Responsibilities include mentoring junior team members in providing legal support for real estate and related transactions, including drafting and negotiating land and facility control documents, addressing mineral rights issues, analyzing title and survey concerns, and resolving title insurance coverage matters.
The position also supports broader transactional work, such as evaluating real estate aspects of acquisitions and M&A opportunities. Collaboration with developers, internal legal teams, and other stakeholders is key to resolving real estate challenges and securing necessary internal approvals for transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates real estate agreements for transmission, solar, and wind projects, ensuring enforceable land rights.
- Maintains and updates company form agreements to reflect current standards.
- Mentors junior team members through hands-on involvement and educational opportunities.
- Coordinates with AGC, Real Estate, to align agreements with company-approved terms.
- Advises developers and works with landowners' and partners' counsel to resolve legal issues.
- Consults with local counsel to ensure compliance with state-specific real estate laws.
- Collaborates with title companies and surveyors to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
- Researches state real estate laws as needed for specific issues.
- Manages all real estate aspects of transmission, solar, and wind projects.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school + active bar license
- 10-15 years of experience in real estate law (bonus if it's in energy or infrastructure)
- Strong background in land acquisition, title/survey, and development
- Excellent communicator and team player
- Passion for renewable energy and sustainable development
