A nationally recognized management-side labor and employment law firm is seeking a seasoned employment attorney to join its team as a remote Special Counsel. This role is ideal for a senior practitioner looking to maintain a sophisticated litigation practice while benefiting from the flexibility of a primarily remote position and freedom from business-development obligations.
Labor & Employment Special Counsel Overview
As Special Counsel, you will manage a range of employment law matters for diverse clients nationwide, including those insured under Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) policies. The position emphasizes efficient, high-quality legal work across the lifecycle of disputes, with opportunities to take ownership of matters while collaborating closely with partners and experienced colleagues.
This role is primarily remote, with limited travel anticipated-generally local and matter-driven.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle employment law matters from intake through resolution, including:
- Administrative agency charges
- Attorney demand letters
- Single-plaintiff employment litigation
- Develop litigation and case management strategies
- Draft, review, and supervise pleadings, discovery, motions, and other work product
- Take and defend depositions
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, conferences, and trials
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and support staff as needed
- Collaborate with partners and litigation teams across the firm
- Assist periodically with class actions, PAGA matters, and other complex employment issues, as appropriate
Qualifications
Required:
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Minimum of 7 years of employment law and litigation experience
- Active bar admission in good standing
- Strong ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Excellent written, analytical, and advocacy skills
Preferred:
- Prior law firm experience
- Experience handling EPLI-covered matters
