Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Compensation: $300,000-$330,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Long-Term Incentive Eligibility
About the Opportunity
An innovative and rapidly expanding financial technology platform is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Counsel to join its legal and compliance function. This attorney will play a critical role advising on bank regulatory, consumer compliance, payments, fintech partnership, and product matters across a diverse and evolving business.
The role offers significant interaction with executive leadership, compliance professionals, product teams, and business stakeholders. The successful candidate will help navigate a dynamic regulatory landscape while supporting the launch and growth of new products, partnerships, and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on the legal and regulatory implications of banking, payments, lending, and fintech activities.
- Provide day-to-day counsel regarding consumer financial laws, regulatory compliance obligations, and risk management considerations.
- Partner with product, compliance, risk, and business teams to evaluate new products, services, and strategic initiatives.
- Support regulatory examinations, inquiries, and interactions with state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Analyze evolving regulatory developments and provide actionable guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Review and negotiate agreements involving financial services, technology providers, strategic partners, and third-party vendors.
- Assist with developing compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, and governance controls.
- Advise on regulatory considerations associated with embedded finance, Banking-as-a-Service, digital payments, and other emerging financial products.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience gained at a law firm, financial institution, fintech company, regulatory agency, or combination thereof.
- Strong understanding of bank regulatory and consumer financial services laws.
- Experience advising business teams on complex regulatory and compliance issues.
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills and strong business judgment.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:
- Consumer financial services regulation
- UDAAP/UDAP compliance
- TILA, ECOA, FCRA, EFTA, GLBA, and related consumer protection laws
- Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and fintech partnership models
- Payments, money movement, digital banking, or embedded finance products
- Regulatory examination management and regulatory engagement
- Vendor management and third-party risk frameworks
- Deposit, lending, and banking product counseling
