Our client is an award-winning civil engineering firm based in New York City, known for delivering innovative infrastructure solutions across the region. With a strong reputation in the AEC industry, the firm is seeking a seasoned Controller to join its leadership team and help drive financial excellence during a period of strategic growth.
Position Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm's financial operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic alignment with business goals. This role requires a CPA with a proven track record in the AEC industry, particularly in project-based accounting environments. The position reports directly to the CFO and will have a dotted line to the Group CFO in the near future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, billing, accounts payable/receivable, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and reports.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate job costing and financial forecasting.
- Drive the budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with the CFO.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and tax requirements.
- Oversee financial systems and software, with a focus on tools used in the AEC sector.
- Support strategic financial planning and decision-making.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit processes.
Qualifications:
- Active CPA license is required.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting role.
- Prior experience in the AEC industry is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Proficiency with AEC-focused accounting platforms (e.g., Deltek, CMiC, Viewpoint).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment and collaborate across departments.
Work Schedule:
- Hybrid role with three days per week onsite at the firm's NYC office.
