Director, Derivatives Counsel
About the Role
A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced attorney to support its derivatives business across the Americas. This role will provide legal and regulatory guidance on complex equity derivatives transactions, partnering closely with trading, structuring, and business teams on strategic initiatives and risk management.
Responsibilities
- Advise trading and markets businesses on legal and regulatory matters relating to derivatives products and transactions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate ISDA and other transaction documentation.
- Partner with business stakeholders on transaction structuring, new products, and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor developments in securities, derivatives, and broker-dealer regulations.
- Provide practical guidance on legal and regulatory risk management.
- Support the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and legal templates.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, risk, and business teams across the organization.
Qualifications
- J.D. and active bar membership.
- 7+ years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or financial institution.
- Significant experience with equity derivatives, OTC derivatives, and structured transactions.
- Strong knowledge of ISDA documentation and market-standard trading agreements.
- Deep understanding of U.S. securities laws, derivatives regulation, and broker-dealer requirements.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
