Our Client is a leading infrastructure and construction company with a strong presence in the Northeast, known for delivering complex public works projects that shape the future of urban mobility and resilience. Their legal team plays a critical role in supporting high-stakes, high-impact projects across transportation, transit, and civil infrastructure.

Position Overview

They are seeking a Regional Counsel with deep expertise in public construction contracts to join their in-house legal team. This role will support operations across the Northeast region, with a focus on contract negotiation, risk management, compliance, and dispute resolution related to public infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate prime contracts, subcontracts, joint venture agreements, and design-build agreements for public sector projects.
  • Advise project teams on contract interpretation, claims, change orders, and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local procurement laws, including DBE, MWBE, and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Collaborate with external counsel on litigation, arbitration, and administrative proceedings.
  • Provide legal training and guidance to project managers and executives on contract risk and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry trends impacting public construction contracting.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in New York or eligible for in-house counsel registration.
  • 8+ years of legal experience with a strong focus on public construction contracts, preferably in-house or with a firm serving the construction industry.
  • Deep knowledge of New York public procurement laws, design-build, and infrastructure contracting.
  • Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with MTA, DOT, Port Authority, or other public agencies.
  • Familiarity with federal funding requirements (e.g., FTA, FHWA).
