Legal Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities
Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM)
- Own and manage the end-to-end contract lifecycle, including intake, negotiation, approval, execution, and renewal-ensuring nothing slips through the cracks
- Evaluate, implement, and continuously optimize CLM tools and related platforms (e.g., eDiscovery, legal research)
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert on contract structure, risk, rights, and obligations across business units
Legal Technology & Systems
- Lead the selection, implementation, and adoption of legal technology, including DMS, e-billing, matter management, legal research tools, and AI solutions
- Oversee system administration, vendor management, and performance optimization
- Build dashboards and reporting frameworks that provide leadership with clear visibility into legal activity, risk, and spend
Process Design & Operations
- Proactively identify workflow gaps and implement scalable, durable solutions
- Design and enforce process controls that improve efficiency and reduce friction
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and ensure clear communication between legal and business teams
Team & Budget Leadership
- Own budget planning, vendor management, and outside counsel spend, with full P&L accountability for legal operations
- Develop and mentor team members through structured training, clear expectations, and performance management
- Build strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders to drive alignment and efficiency across the organization
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive legal operations experience, including 2+ years managing direct reports
- Demonstrated success implementing or managing legal systems (CLM, DMS, e-billing, matter management, legal research tools) from selection through adoption
- Hands-on experience with legal tech platforms such as ContractPodAI, Harvey AI, Epiq, or similar tools strongly preferred
- Experience operating in high-volume environments (corporate legal department, law firm, or both)
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced settings
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with both legal and non-legal stakeholders
- Ability to independently draft, review, and negotiate contracts
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, invoice review, and spend management
- Demonstrated ability to build, transform, and scale legal operations functions-not just maintain them
