The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team in Boston, MA. This is a hands-on, strategic role supporting project development and asset management across a diverse portfolio of energy infrastructure projects. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, providing legal guidance from early-stage development through to commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements, including EPC contracts, credit agreements, offtake agreements, ISDAs, leases, and purchase agreements
- Provide legal support on permitting, environmental, regulatory, and licensing matters at local, state, and federal levels
- Support the formation of project and corporate entities, including preparation of governance documentation
- Manage relationships with external counsel, including oversight of legal costs and performance
- Partner with cross-functional teams across development, finance, and engineering to support project execution
- Advise on complex commercial and corporate transactions, including financing and M&A activities
- Contribute to legal strategy across energy generation projects from development through operations
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) required
- Licensed to practice law in the U.S. and in good standing
- 4-6 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house environment
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and commercial contract experience
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, or power sector strongly preferred
- Exposure to project finance, secured finance, or M&A transactions is highly desirable
- Familiarity with permitting, environmental regulations, or energy markets (ISO/RTO) is a plus
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
- Motivated to expand legal expertise across a broad range of subject areas
