Senior Counsel - Litigation and Privacy
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a skilled and strategic Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This role will provide expert legal guidance across a range of areas including Labor & Employment Law, Transportation Law, Litigation & Claims, Customer & Revenue Contracts, Corporate & ESG Compliance, and Data Privacy (GDPR). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in logistics or transportation, and a proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Labor & Employment Law: Advise on employment practices, labor relations, workplace policies, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Transportation Law: Provide legal support on regulatory matters affecting freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and international shipping.
- Litigation & Claims: Manage and oversee litigation matters, including employment disputes, commercial claims, and regulatory investigations.
- Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate customer and revenue-related contracts, ensuring alignment with business goals and legal standards.
- Corporate / ESG Compliance: Support ESG initiatives and ensure compliance with corporate governance, sustainability, and ethical standards.
- Data Privacy (GDPR): Advise on data protection strategies, privacy policies, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments including HR, Compliance, Operations, and IT to mitigate legal risks and support strategic initiatives.
- Outside Counsel Management: Engage and manage external legal advisors as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s).
- Minimum 5-7 years of legal experience, preferably in-house or with a law firm serving logistics, transportation, or supply chain clients.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the core areas listed above.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience working in a multinational or matrixed organization is a plus.
- Familiarity with GDPR and international compliance frameworks preferred.
Preferred Background
- Legal experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain sectors.
- Understanding of global trade regulations and customs compliance.
- IAPP certification or equivalent in data privacy is a plus.
