Head of Legal - Asset Manager

Our client, a leading alternative asset manager, focused on private credit and PE investments is looking to make its first legal hire. The firm is seeking a Head of Legal to oversee and own the legal function within the firm. The person in this role will work closely with senior leadership and the wider business, specifically with the investment team. This person will be expected to provide legal support across the business and have the ability to shape the scope of the role as the business continues to grow. Ideal candidates will be based in the Boston, MA area with the ability to be in office 5 days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate fund documents, primarily focusing on private funds
  • Work closely with the CCO on risk management
  • Provide legal support for complex transactions and general legal matters as needed
  • Take on investor relations duties, including side letters and subscription agreements
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape for any changes affecting the business

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor
  • 9+ YOE in investment management or private equity
  • Ideally experience working in Big Law or relevant in-house experience
  • Deep understanding of private fund structures
  • Massachusetts bar membership
