Role Overview
The General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer (GC/CCO) will serve as the primary legal and compliance leader, responsible for building and overseeing a robust regulatory framework that supports the company's growth. This role will partner closely with executive leadership to navigate complex global regulations and licensing requirements in the crypto and payments space.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all legal and compliance functions, including regulatory strategy, risk management, and governance.
- Advise on licensing requirements across jurisdictions (e.g., money transmitter licenses, VASP registrations, and other applicable regulatory approvals).
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and strategic partnerships.
- Develop and implement compliance programs aligned with AML/KYC, sanctions, and consumer protection standards.
- Ensure adherence to BSA/AML, OFAC, MSB, and state MTL laws, and maintain strong relationships with regulators.
- Serve as liaison with regulators and external counsel on all legal and compliance matters.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of combined legal and compliance experience in fintech, payments, crypto, blockchain, or stablecoin sectors.
- Deep understanding of U.S. and international regulatory frameworks governing digital assets and payment systems.
- Proven experience securing and maintaining licenses required for crypto and payments businesses.
- Expertise in BSA/AML, OFAC, MSB, and state money transmitter licensing laws.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and scale legal and compliance teams.
