Corporate Counsel - Government Contracts
About the Opportunity
An established organization that serves government and institutional customers is seeking a Corporate Counsel - Government Contracts & Compliance to support legal and compliance initiatives related to government contracting operations. Reporting to the General Counsel, this attorney will work closely with cross-functional business teams and outside counsel to help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and contractual requirements.
This is a hands-on, business-oriented role ideal for an attorney with early-career experience in government contracts, compliance, or regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the company's compliance program related to U.S. government contracting requirements, including applicable FAR, DFARS, and agency-specific regulations.
- Assist in identifying compliance risks through reviews of policies, procedures, and business practices.
- Monitor regulatory developments impacting government contractors and help assess business impact.
- Assist with internal and external audits, assessments, and compliance reviews, including preparation of documentation and coordination with stakeholders.
- Support responses to customer, regulator, or government inquiries, audits, and investigations.
- Help develop and deliver employee training programs related to ethics, compliance, and government contracting requirements.
- Prepare and maintain compliance guidance materials, policies, and reference resources.
- Review and summarize customer contracts, supplier agreements, and other third-party arrangements for legal, compliance, and regulatory risks.
- Escalate legal and compliance concerns as appropriate.
- Partner with business functions including sales, operations, and supply chain teams to support compliant business practices and contract execution.
- Assist with document requests, due diligence efforts, and third-party compliance reviews.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Approximately 2-5+ years of experience in government contracts, regulatory compliance, or related legal practice, either in-house or with a law firm.
- Familiarity with federal procurement regulations and government contracting compliance frameworks.
- Experience supporting audits, compliance assessments, investigations, or regulatory inquiries.
- Experience with export controls or international trade compliance is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and solutions-oriented.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business applications.
