Assistant General Counsel
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and support rate case filings before state public utility commissions
- Draft testimony and legal briefs related to cost recovery for infrastructure investments, fuel costs, and environmental compliance
- Advise on FERC filings and federal regulatory obligations
- Conduct internal investigations related to HR matters, including EEO complaints and employee discipline
- Review and support SEC filings and corporate disclosures (e.g., Form 10-K, 8-K, proxy statements)
- Advise on regulatory accounting issues, including depreciation studies and revenue requirement calculations
- Support environmental permitting and compliance, including Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act obligations
- Draft and negotiate real estate agreements, including easements, leases, and acquisitions
- Collaborate with finance and economics teams on cost allocation, rate design, and financial modeling
- Provide legal guidance on procurement contracts, construction agreements, and interconnection arrangements
- Coordinate with external counsel on litigation, regulatory proceedings, and specialized matters
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in MN, ND, or SD, or ability to obtain licensure
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience in an in-house legal department, government agency, or law firm
- Experience with rate cases, cost recovery mechanisms, and regulatory filings
- Familiarity with SEC reporting, environmental law, employment investigations, and utility accounting
- Strong legal writing and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple complex matters independently
