Legal Patent Specialist
In this role, you'll be part of the Intellectual Property Group within the Legal department, collaborating closely with team members to develop and manage the patent portfolio. You'll also work with engineering, product, and business teams to provide guidance on all aspects of intellectual property.
Responsibilities
- Identify and Evaluate Innovations: Proactively research emerging technologies and internal developments to determine which innovations have strong potential for patent protection. Assess novelty, market relevance, and strategic value to the company's intellectual property portfolio.
- Collaborate on Patent Applications: Work closely with inventors, engineers, and external counsel to draft, refine, and prosecute patent applications globally. Ensure technical accuracy and alignment with business objectives throughout the filing process.
- Patent Analysis and Opinions: Conduct thorough reviews of existing patents and pending applications. Prepare detailed infringement and validity opinions to support litigation, licensing, and strategic decision-making.
- Educate and Train Teams: Develop and deliver engaging seminars and training sessions on intellectual property topics, including patent strategy, compliance, and best practices, to enhance organizational awareness and innovation culture.
- Strategic Partnership with R&D and Product Teams: Collaborate with research, development, and product management teams to create IP strategies that strengthen the company's patent portfolio, protect core technologies, and support long-term product development goals.
Requirements
- Master's degree or above in Electrical Engineering
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
- 4-6 years of experience in a law firm and/or corporate setting.
- Proven experience in preparing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school preferred
