A leading AmLaw firm is seeking a mid-level Patent Associate to join its Intellectual Property team in Newark. This is a dynamic opportunity for a technically strong and strategically minded attorney to work with top-tier clients in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, prosecute, and manage U.S. and international patent portfolios related to small molecules and biologics
Provide strategic IP counseling, including:
Freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses
Patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions
Support and participate in patent litigation, including ANDA and biosimilar disputes
Collaborate closely with scientists, product development, and business teams to identify and protect new IP
Educate clients on IP strategy and portfolio development
Ideal Candidate Profile
J.D. and admission to a U.S. state bar
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Minimum 4 years of patent experience in the life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical space
Advanced degree (or significant R&D experience) in chemistry, biology, immunology, or biochemistry preferred
Experience with global patent prosecution and strategic portfolio management
Strong communication skills and ability to distill complex IP issues for cross-functional teams
Prior in-house experience in small molecule chemistry is a plus
