Corporate Counsel
My client is seeking a versatile and proactive Corporate Counsel to join their in-house legal team. This role will focus on employment law and human resources support, while also providing legal guidance across a broad range of corporate, regulatory, and operational matters. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in labor and employment law, excellent judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated transportation environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Employment Law & HR Support
- Advise HR and business leaders on employment-related matters including hiring, discipline, terminations, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and employee relations.
- Support internal investigations, employee complaints, and workplace audits.
- Draft and review employment agreements, separation agreements, and HR policies.
- Monitor and interpret changes in federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
General Legal Support
- Provide legal counsel on a variety of matters including contracts, regulatory compliance, risk management, and litigation.
- Assist with responses to government inquiries, subpoenas, and administrative proceedings (e.g., EEOC, NLRB, DOT).
- Collaborate with outside counsel on employment litigation and other legal matters.
- Support internal training initiatives on legal and compliance topics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with departments such as Operations, Safety, Compliance, and Labor Relations to ensure legal alignment with business goals.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of company-wide legal strategies and policies.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Illinois preferred).
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a strong emphasis on employment law.
- In-house counsel or transportation industry experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a dynamic environment.
