Consumer Finance Counsel - Fintech (Remote)
We are currently working with a rapidly growing Fintech company that is seeking to fill an in-house counsel position that will be the first hire for their Legal department. The firm provides financing solutions for small businesses and individuals to support Main Street level enterprises and the growth of entrepreneurs. This is a high impact role that will report directly to the CEO of the company and will act as the Head of Legal. This individual will ideally bring a wealth of experience in the consumer finance space and will help with developing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, advise the business on new product lines, and act as a trusted advisor for strategic decisions the firm is undertaking. The position can be fully remote and will involve minimal travel.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and interpret federal and state consumer finance laws (e.g., TILA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP).
- Advise on compliance with CFPB, state regulators, and other governing bodies.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and partnership deals.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks related to lending practices, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
- Strategize with senior business leaders on new product lines and strategic corporate decisions.
Qualifications:
- Law degree from an accredited university
- 5+ years of legal experience in an in-house or law firm setting
- Strong understanding of consumer finance regulations and experience advising senior stakeholders on related matters
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-growing setting while balancing legal risks with business objectives
