Labor & Employment Attorney - In-House
A growing, multi‑state industrial company is seeking an Employment Counsel to join its Legal & HR leadership team. This role will be the company's primary in‑house resource for employment law issues, partnering closely with HR and field operations across several states.
While based out of Las Vegas, California experience is strongly preferred due to the company's large hourly workforce and significant operations just across the California border.
This role is ideal for a practical, business‑minded attorney who enjoys hands‑on work, advising HR leadership, and proactively managing compliance in complex labor environments.
Employment Counseling & Compliance
- Serve as the primary advisor to HR and leadership on day‑to‑day employment matters.
- Provide guidance on hiring, performance management, investigations, accommodations, discipline, and termination.
- Maintain and update employee handbooks and HR policies across multiple states.
- Lead compliance efforts for wage & hour regulations-especially in California-including audits, risk assessments, and guidance on scheduling, breaks, overtime, and recordkeeping.
Litigation Management
- Oversee employment-related claims and administrative charges (EEOC, DFEH, etc.).
- Direct strategy and manage outside counsel; ensure consistent, cost‑effective litigation handling.
- Provide internal guidance and lessons learned to reduce future litigation risk.
Strategic Support
- Advise on HR operations for a large hourly workforce.
- Help prepare training for HR and management teams on employment law topics.
- Support labor-related issues and workforce strategy as needed.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5-8 years of employment law experience preferred.
- Strong law firm background in employment counseling or litigation (preferably from specialized employment firms).
- Prior in‑house experience is helpful but not required.
- Deep knowledge of California employment law and wage & hour regulations.
- Experience supporting large hourly workforces highly desirable.
- Comfortable working independently and in fast-moving environments.
