Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory:
- Provide strategic legal advice to the executive team on matters related to energy regulation, project development, and contractual obligations.
- Analyze and interpret laws, regulations, and policies affecting the energy sector to guide decision-making.
Contract Management:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including power purchase agreements, joint venture agreements, and procurement contracts.
- Ensure contracts comply with legal requirements and align with business objectives.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of changes in energy laws and regulations, and advise on compliance requirements.
- Work closely with regulatory bodies and government agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits.
Risk Management:
- Identify legal risks associated with energy projects and develop strategies to mitigate such risks.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on legal best practices.
Dispute Resolution:
- Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration, in collaboration with external counsel when necessary.
- Implement strategies to avoid disputes and promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal teams, external legal advisors, government agencies, and industry associations to address legal issues and achieve business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor or equivalent legal qualification.
- Admission to the Bar in Australia.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal counsel in the energy sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian energy laws, regulations, and industry practices.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex legal matters and provide strategic advice.
