Position Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced EPC Counsel to join their legal team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in the energy industry, with a focus on Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts. The EPC Counsel will play a crucial role in managing and negotiating complex EPC agreements, providing legal guidance on project development, and supporting the company's overall legal strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating EPC contracts, including agreements with engineering firms, procurement vendors, and construction contractors.
- Providing legal support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from initial development to completion and operation.
- Collaborating with internal teams, including project management, engineering, and finance, to ensure contract compliance and mitigate legal risks.
- Conducting legal research and staying up-to-date with industry regulations and best practices related to renewable energy projects.
- Advising senior management on legal matters, including dispute resolution, risk management, and contract interpretation.
- Managing external legal counsel and consultants as needed for specialized legal support.
- Participating in project meetings and negotiations to represent the company's legal interests effectively.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and standards within the organization.
- Supporting other legal initiatives and projects as assigned by the General Counsel or senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of Texas (or eligible for in-house counsel licensure).
- 5-10 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on EPC contracts in the energy sector, preferably in the renewable energy or natural gas industry.
- Strong understanding of contract law, construction law, and project management principles.
- Proven track record of negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, with excellent attention to detail and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and external partners/vendors in a corporate setting.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and environmental laws related to renewable energy projects is a plus.
