Job Description: As the Senior Construction Counsel, you will play a critical role in providing legal guidance and support across all aspects of our Client's construction projects. You will work closely with project teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with legal requirements, mitigate risks, and drive successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on construction contract negotiations, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Advise on project procurement strategies, bid processes, and risk allocation mechanisms.
- Review and analyze project documentation, including specifications, drawings, schedules, and change orders, to identify legal issues and potential liabilities.
- Manage construction-related disputes, claims, and litigation, including coordination with external counsel and experts as needed.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement risk management strategies, compliance programs, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices in construction law.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and contractual matters.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, presentations, and contract negotiations.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the bar.
- 10+ years of legal experience with a focus on construction law, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project delivery methods, and industry standards (e.g., AIA contracts, design-build, EPC).
- Experience with construction claims management, dispute resolution, and litigation.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with construction regulations, permitting processes, and environmental considerations.
- Proficiency in legal research, contract drafting, and risk assessment.
