Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate General Counsel with expertise in Renewable Energy Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) agreements, and a solid background working with or for an Independent Power Producer (IPP). As a key member of their legal team, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping and safeguarding their renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and mitigating risks while working directly with the General Counsel.
Responsibilities:
- EPC Agreement Drafting and Negotiation: Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of EPC agreements for renewable energy projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices.
- Legal Compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory developments and ensure that all renewable energy projects comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Risk Management: Identify legal risks associated with EPC agreements and IPP activities, providing strategic advice to mitigate and manage such risks effectively.
- Contract Management: Oversee the contract lifecycle, from initial negotiation through to execution and ongoing compliance, ensuring that contractual relationships are well-managed and in the best interest of the company.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project development, finance, and operations, to provide legal support and ensure seamless execution of renewable energy projects.
- Dispute Resolution: Handle and resolve legal disputes related to EPC agreements and IPP operations, collaborating with external legal counsel when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
- 8+ years of legal experience, with a focus on renewable energy project development and EPC agreements.
- Proven experience working with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in the renewable energy sector.
- Strong understanding of energy regulations, permitting processes, and project finance.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
