Director - Insurance Regulatory Counsel
The Regulatory Counsel will be responsible for advising and leading our U.S. State regulatory compliance function within the legal department. This role will support product development, licensing, filings, and compliance initiatives, ensuring alignment with state and federal regulations. You'll work cross-functionally with legal, product, operations, and executive teams to mitigate risk and enable growth.
Key Responsibilites:
- Provide legal and strategic guidance on regulatory issues affecting admitted and non-admitted insurance carriers.
- Manage regulatory filings, rate and form filings, and surplus lines documentation.
- Monitor and interpret changes in insurance laws and regulations across multiple states.
- Liaise with state Departments of Insurance and other regulatory bodies.
- Support licensing and compliance for entities and producers.
- Draft and review policy forms, endorsements, disclosures, and other insurance-related documents.
- Develop and implement internal compliance policies and training programs.
- Assist with audits, examinations, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Collaborate with product and underwriting teams to ensure regulatory alignment in product design.
- Advise on corporate governance and risk management practices.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 10+ years of experience in insurance regulatory law, preferably with exposure to both admitted and non-admitted markets.
- Deep understanding of state insurance regulations, surplus lines laws, and compliance frameworks.
