An international financial institution is seeking a seasoned professional to lead compliance and risk oversight for its Tokyo operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, cross-border environment and is passionate about regulatory integrity and operational resilience.
Your Impact
As the Compliance & Risk Officer, you'll be the cornerstone of regulatory assurance and risk governance. You'll manage local compliance frameworks, liaise with regulators, and ensure the branch operates within both domestic and global standards. You'll also contribute to risk monitoring and reporting, helping shape the branch's strategic risk posture.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Leadership
- Drive customer onboarding and due diligence processes, ensuring robust KYC practices.
- Serve as the branch's Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), overseeing financial crime compliance.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries and coordinate reporting obligations.
- Maintain and update compliance documentation and manuals.
- Lead internal compliance reviews, training sessions, and governance reporting.
- Act as the primary contact for audits and regulatory inspections.
Risk Oversight
- Monitor operational and strategic risks, escalating key issues to global teams.
- Support risk assessments, reporting, and change management initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies and control systems.
What You Bring
- Experience: 7-10 years in financial services, with at least 5 years in compliance.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Skills:
- Deep understanding of Japanese financial regulations.
- Fluent in English; Japanese language skills are a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to work independently.
- Comfortable operating as a solo compliance lead in a branch setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools.
- Experience with international sanctions is advantageous.
