About the Role
A regulated financial services organisation is selectively strengthening its Payments Operations capability and is seeking an experienced Senior Expert Payments Operations to join its Financial Operations function.
The position focuses on the professional ownership, governance and continuous development of payment transaction processes across multiple payment schemes. Acting as a key functional interface between operations, IT and finance, the role combines hands‑on payments expertise with strong analytical and regulatory awareness. It is well suited to professionals who enjoy working across complex systems and data landscapes within a controlled banking environment.
Responsibilities
- Professional ownership and ongoing optimisation of payment transaction processes across key payment methods, including SEPA Credit Transfers, SEPA Direct Debits and Instant Payments
- Acting as a central coordination point between specialist functions, IT and finance to ensure consistent process design, data flows and system logic within payment operations
- Responsibility for settlement, clearing and accounting‑related processes, as well as their accurate financial representation and reporting readiness
- Ensuring regulatory‑compliant and audit‑ready reporting processes, including payment‑related regulatory and statistical reporting, with accountability for data quality and reporting logic
- Financial monitoring and control of payment flows, including analysis, reconciliation and resolution of discrepancies
- Definition, implementation and enforcement of control and quality standards in close cooperation with payment operations stakeholders
- Support of product changes, process enhancements, system releases and scheme‑driven adjustments within the payments landscape
Your Profile
- Degree in Economics, Business Administration or Finance, or a completed banking apprenticeship combined with relevant professional qualification
- Several years of experience in payment processing, settlement or financial control within a bank or regulated financial services environment
- Strong knowledge of SEPA schemes (SCT, SDD, SCT Inst), clearing and settlement processes and related payment infrastructures
- Solid understanding of regulatory and reporting requirements applicable to payment transactions
- Experience analysing payment discrepancies, performing reconciliations and working with complex process and data structures
- Strong analytical and structured working style with a high level of accuracy and independence
- Confident communicator with the ability to operate effectively across interdisciplinary interfaces
- Fluent German and very good English skills, both written and spoken
