The Opportunity
A privately held wealth management organization is seeking a Director, Wealth Strategy to join its Chicago-based team. This senior-level position will advise high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families on complex estate planning, wealth transfer, trust, tax, and multigenerational planning matters.
The Director will work closely with clients and their broader advisory teams to evaluate existing planning structures, identify opportunities, and help coordinate the implementation of sophisticated wealth strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced trusts and estates attorney or wealth planning professional interested in applying their technical expertise in a highly client-focused wealth management environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior resource to clients on sophisticated estate, trust, gifting, tax, charitable, and multigenerational wealth planning matters.
- Lead client conversations around wealth transfer objectives and provide practical recommendations based on each family's broader financial picture.
- Evaluate existing estate plans and identify opportunities to improve planning structures, asset ownership, gifting strategies, and legacy objectives.
- Review complex estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, family entities, and charitable structures.
- Assess relevant estate and gift tax information in connection with long-term wealth transfer planning.
- Develop financial analyses and illustrations to help clients understand the impact of various planning strategies.
- Partner with clients' outside trusts and estates attorneys, tax professionals, and other advisors to coordinate planning recommendations and implementation.
- Assist with trust-related matters and serve as a resource when coordinating with corporate trustees and other fiduciaries.
- Support internal advisors on technical estate planning, wealth transfer, and fiduciary questions.
- Research developments affecting high-net-worth families and translate technical topics into practical guidance for clients and colleagues.
- Participate in client education, thought leadership initiatives, and industry events related to private wealth and estate planning.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) required.
- Minimum of 14 years of relevant experience in trusts and estates, private wealth planning, advanced planning, or a closely related field.
- Extensive experience working with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Strong understanding of estate planning, trusts, gifting strategies, wealth transfer, and fiduciary considerations.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting sophisticated estate planning documents and structures.
- Ability to communicate complex legal and tax concepts effectively to clients without unnecessary technical language.
- Experience collaborating with estate planning attorneys, CPAs, investment professionals, trustees, and other outside advisors.
- Strong analytical, research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced professional credentials, such as an LLM in Tax, CFP, or CPWA, are a plus.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
