Head of US Compliance
A leading insurance and reinsurance organization is seeking a senior compliance leader to oversee U.S. regulatory compliance across multiple licensed entities. This role provides strategic direction for the compliance program, ensuring alignment with federal and state requirements, NAIC standards, and internal governance frameworks. The position partners closely with legal, operations, finance, risk, and senior leadership, requiring strong coordination across a matrixed compliance structure.
The role oversees regulatory filings, state regulatory interactions, examinations, and overall compliance risk management. It also leads horizon scanning, gap analysis, implementation of new regulatory requirements, and ongoing enhancements to policies, procedures, and training. This individual will guide compliance staff, promote strong stakeholder relationships, and ensure that all compliance obligations are captured, monitored, and effectively controlled within the firm's governance systems.
Responsibilities
* Lead and maintain the U.S. compliance program, policies, and procedures
* Monitor regulatory developments and conduct impact assessments and gap analysis
* Oversee regulatory filings, examinations, audits, and remediation efforts
* Manage compliance risk assessments across all U.S. entities
* Provide guidance on corporate policies, conflicts, training, and governance frameworks
* Support integration of acquired businesses into the compliance program
* Prepare reporting for senior leadership, boards, and governance committees
* Partner with global compliance, financial crime, legal, and risk teams
* Ensure regulatory obligations and controls are properly documented in governance systems
* Mentor and develop compliance professionals
Qualifications
* 8+ years of compliance/legal experience in insurance or reinsurance
* JD preferred but not required
* Strong understanding of U.S. insurance regulatory frameworks and NAIC standards
* Excellent communication, analytical, and project‑management skills
* Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage complex regulatory matters
