Energy Trading Senior Counsel
A leading North American renewable energy operator is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its dynamic Energy Services team. This organization manages over 3,000 MW of utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and renewable natural gas assets across the U.S. and Canada, with a robust development pipeline of 1,200 MW.
About the Role:
This is a high-impact position supporting commercial transactions, including commodities and hedging activities. You'll work closely with the trading group and executive leadership, providing legal guidance on complex deals and regulatory matters. The role reports to the SVP, Corporate and General Counsel and offers a hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and negotiate trading documentation for financial and physical commodity transactions (Power, Capacity, Environmentals).
- Manage ISDA, EEI, PPA, CSA, LC, PCG, and other agreements.
- Structure and negotiate credit support instruments (Letters of Credit, guarantees).
- Advise on legal and reputational risks in trading activities.
- Support due diligence for lien-based transactions.
- Monitor regulatory developments (FERC, ISOs) and ensure compliance.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- JD degree with 5+ years of experience in corporate transactions in the energy sector.
- Strong background in negotiating ISDAs and related schedules.
- Familiarity with U.S. energy markets (ERCOT, PJM, MISO).
- Proven ability to manage multiple transactions and provide strategic legal advice.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset with adaptability to support broader corporate legal functions.
