Director of Export Control Compliance
Our client is seeking a Director of Export Controls & Trade Compliance to lead and continue building a global export compliance program within a rapidly growing industrial manufacturing organization. Reporting to the General Counsel, this individual will serve as the company's subject matter expert on export controls and trade compliance, working closely with legal, supply chain, logistics, engineering, operations, government affairs, and commercial teams.
The role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with U.S. export control regulations, including EAR, BIS licensing and classifications, OFAC sanctions, technology transfer controls, deemed exports, and related trade compliance requirements. Exposure to ITAR and defense-related export controls is preferred. This leader will help develop a scalable compliance framework that supports both commercial and government-facing business activities across a complex global manufacturing and supply chain environment.
Key responsibilities include leading the company's export compliance program, developing policies and procedures, overseeing training initiatives, conducting risk assessments, managing export classifications and licensing strategies, implementing technology control plans, and directing restricted party screening processes. The position will also advise business leaders on export control implications related to products, technologies, technical data, software, equipment, international transactions, and strategic supply chain initiatives.
The Director will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliance considerations are incorporated into business decisions while helping the organization navigate evolving regulatory, geopolitical, and national security-related risks. Additional responsibilities include supporting audits and investigations, managing interactions with regulatory agencies, overseeing corrective actions and disclosures when necessary, and providing strategic guidance to senior leadership on trade compliance matters.
Qualified candidates will bring 10+ years of progressive export compliance experience within manufacturing, aerospace, defense, semiconductor, energy, mining, advanced technology, or similar industrial sectors. Deep expertise in EAR, export licensing, product classifications, sanctions compliance, dual-use technologies, and compliance program management is required. Experience supporting organizations serving both commercial and defense-related customers is highly desirable, as is familiarity with government contracting requirements, supply chain compliance, technology transfer controls, and strategically sensitive industries. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential.
